Type Locality and Naming
By the Shatut stream, Southwest Gissar. V.A. Khokhlov, V.E. Golovin, et al. in 1972, as part of the Baysun crystalline rock series (307, p.68). Stratotype in the Baysuntau mountains, basin of the Shatut river. Uppermost formation in Baysuntau Gr.
Synonym: Shatut Suite, Шатутская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Uniform layer of biotite plagiogneisses, muscovitized with numerous low-power bodies of quartzites; in the lower part (thickness 400m) - single bodies of sillimanite-biotite, biotite-amphibole, garnet-biotite-amphibole gneisses; in the upper (thickness 410m) - bodies of quartzitic slates and micaceous quartzites. In the upper parts of the suite, near the Gumatak intrusive, numerous low-power (3m) bodies of granitogneisses are developed. Thickness 810m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is connected by gradual transitions with the underlying Aylangar Fm
Upper contact
It is overlain by the Vakhshvar Fm with a sharp unconformity.
Regional extent
Southwest Gissar, Baysuntau and Susyztau mountains.
